NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK

STATES WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF BOATING ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES SHOULD “BUCKLE UP WITH A wireless lanyard

As National Safe Boating Week gets underway, the following states that have the highest number of accidents and fatalities are prepared to face some challenges.  According to U.S. Coast Guard Accident Statistics, 70% of all accidents on the water involve falling overboard and collisions.

The National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) encourages the use of a life jacket to save yourself from drowning, but the motor also needs to stop immediately to prevent injuries.  When a lanyard is used in these instances, you can swim back to your boat and avoid a runaway boat situation that might jeopardize others and properties.

The number indicated by the Coast Guard in 2010 show that there were 4,604 accidents that involved 672 deaths, 3,153 injuries and property damages averaging $35.5 million dollars. And according to NSBC, 88 percent did not wear a life jacket and drowned. If they had been using the lanyard, the result would’ve been more favorable.

“We understand that being tethered to the lanyard is not fun and wearing the life jacket can be uncomfortable. But with today’s technology, the lanyard also known as the kill switch, red cord, and/or cut-off switch, has gone wireless and life jackets auto inflate. Boaters need to be informed that they don’t need to sacrifice safety for convenience.”  Anthony Viggiano, Inventor and President of Autotether LLC said.

The Autotether Wireless Kill switch offers a convenient rapid response solution for the person who cares about themselves and their passengers. It will also permit everyone to safely move around the boat. The Autotether offers a cost effective, easy to install alternative to the hassles of using the red corded “kill switch”.

In order to reduce and prevent recreational vessel and propeller strike –related casualties, and promote water safety, the U.S. Coast Guard is developing a new regulation on the use of lanyards. Currently, the following six states have the lanyard law in place: Nevada, Arkansas, Alabama, New Jersey, Louisiana, and Illinois.

Top boating deaths occur in the following states (2010 U.S. Coast Guard data):

1. Florida; 2. California; 3. Texas;  4. Michigan;  5. South Carolina

States with the most boating accidents are:

1. Florida; 2. California; 3. New York;  4. Maryland;  5. Texas

How important is your life, to your family?

It’s a gorgeous day for fishing, but everyone is too busy to join you. It’s been a stressful day, and being out in the water is the only thing that will make you happy. You need some alone time. No matter what the reason is to be out in the water by yourself, accidents do happen. Whether you’re untangling something, trying to bring up a good size catch, or have an unexpected health issue, there should be an emergency plan. The Autotether specifically had this in mind when they developed the award winning wireless lanyard.

The cell phone, ipad, life saver, life jacket, old unattached lanyard, will not help when you fall out while the motor is running. Who knows where your boat is going or when it’s going to stop. The U.S. Coast Guard will probably find your boat if properly equipped but will they find you? What will your family do, if you don’t show up for dinner? We’re sure that you’ve thought about this a couple of times.

At Autotether, we urge you to re-evaluate your emergency plans. Our award winning wireless technology ensures that when you do fall off the boat, that the boat will automatically stop and sound an alarm. This small clip has a wireless sensor which triggers the kill switch when submerged in water. It’s very affordable, uncomplicated, easy to install, and requires no tools.

BUI - Could the use of an automatic engine cut-off switch impact passenger fatality results?

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 17% of all recreational boating fatalities involved the use of alcohol. Boaters who are under the influence, will have impaired judgment, balance, vision and reaction time. Fatigue caused by the sun, wind, boat movement, when using alcohol will make the reaction time decline even faster. Not only is the operator at risk, but the passengers, other boaters and the innocent bystanders in the vicinity.

As a boat operator, your passengers are allowed to drink on board. Taking care of them while they are under the influence could be stressful. Without you knowing, anyone of them could fall out of the boat without their life vests, and at anytime. Will you know where to locate them if the boat doesn’t stop?

With the Autotether, you could avoid the stress and potentially even save their life. Make it mandatory to where the unrestrictive small clip (wireless sensor) that sounds an alarm and triggers the kill switch when submerged in water. It’s very affordable, uncomplicated, easy to install, and requires no tools.
